its for a friend, he though that they clippers were all GTI, but i know that mk1 cabs came in GTI and carb form,

he was wondering if the clipper should be a GTI or whether the carb is an aftermarket add on etc. i thought the carb was a p*** poor pierburg model???

Clippers were all 90bhp carb except for the very last ones (usually J or K plate). This was a complex, and generally not very good, pierburg carb.

The last ones featured the GTI engine, with single point injection. In effect in 'american spec', detuned to 90bhp from 112bhp. Rare but pointless.

The GTI always had the 112bhp in standard form.

The reason the last clippers had the GTI engine was due to emissions and the addition of a CAT. The GTI was phased out by this point and the clipper continued for a couple of years. Then it was replaced by the Mk3.

    Cheers,

    Drew.
