I have a valve in my hand right now and looking at it it has a hard ridge just below where the valve seals on the seat, I may smooth that out but I think there may be strength issues if the valves are thinned down any more.

I wonder.... most other manufacturers valves seem to be so much thinner with a less gradual slope from stem to seat....

Looking thru the archives I saw mention of lots of people running 35mm exhaust valves, and One guy set_aui used Nissan ones , 34.9 mm... anyone tell me more about this? Also where do you get oversize valves , can they be bought from stockists of standard engine parts? VW Specialist tuners are practically non exixtent here in Ireland...

I think mine has 40.5mm inlet valves & 35mm ex valves on my 8v head.

Probably not a great benefit on a road use engine as the guide and the valve stem are still in the way, plus it no doubt helps to support the guide. I must admit though, been thinking along the same lines on our project 8v head for my friends 2ltr, plus its a whole lot easier to just lean on the boss with the die grinder and watch it disapear than to grind around it. On a race engine, grind it out (my race head does'nt have the boss anymore), but a road engine, mmm... [:[]
