It's a bit of a knuckle basher geting to the copper 13mm nut to undo the mechanism off the shifter shaft! - Get a new nut too and use plenty of copper grease to avoid it ceasing with the heat as its close to the exhaust manifold.

I've ordered the one off egay. My dad owns a garage so I just borrow a ramp for a bit. easy as pie to get to underneath.

I fitted a weighted gear linkage today, actually made a noticeable difference! It seems to find the gears much easier with it, and just feels generally more positive. would recommend it. got it for 11 plus VAT from VW.

I changed the gear selector rods, gear shift relay shaft & ball on mine and aligned it up with the tool above. Felt so smooth after that and the parts were cheap to

yeah, it's out of alignment because i changed the big orange bush on the main gear linkage shaft (?) it was knackered!
the reason was because going into 1st,3rd and 5th was more like guess work than anything else, thought the rod might be bent out of original shape too but ultimately i think it's just the alignment.
How often does the alignment go out?
