Lunched it on a trackday at the weekend, been quoted 380 + vat for a recon one. Is this a good price?
Sounds ok. I have been quoted prices ranging from 400-500 for a reconditioned one. Or about 300 to recondition mine. But cant do without the car for the time it will take them to do that..
MAke sure it's a proper re-con then mate. I've heard of alot of people buying so-called recons only to have a second hand one thats been jet washed. If it is a recon box ask them what they've done to it. They should have replaced: 2 diff bearings(taper roller) 2 diff seals/cup seals diff rivets for bolts(not always but worth doing while the box is out) 1st and 2nd synchros 2 off output shaft bearing(taper roller) 1 input shaft bearing(deep groove ball) 2 input shaft seals gear shift seal box gaskets You can see if the box has been apart if there are new gaskets. If the geaskets are old, then either they haven't even looked inside, or they workmanship is gash!
Pays your money and take a chance then. If its a good un no probs, if its a bad un..send it back Not everyone out there is out to rip people off......
