    Hi,

After a long run to Manchester i've begun to notice rattling noise from the gearbox when I have the bonnet open.

I've had the gearbox checked before as its always had a slight whining noise, but garage have always said its ok for its age.

    car is a 1992 MK2 GTi 16V

wondering if anyone else has gearbox noise or any ideas.

I understand you can't easily check the gearbox oil level, is that correct?

    Cheers

You can easily check the fluid level - take out the filler plug at the side, the oil should be up to the same level. The slight rattling does happen on a lot of golfs and isn't terminal - the whining would suggest a bearing is on the way out though.

    Thanks for your help

I checked the oil level and topped it up just to be safe.
Guess I will have to live with the whining though.

    Cheers
