    Hi, All

I'm having the gearlinkage renewed on my 1986 MK1 1.8 Cabriolet as it's a bit sloppy. I seem to recall the gearbox is a sealed for life unit but should I have the oil renewed and if so what sort.
Also will be having the cambelt and water pump done soon. GSF has a complete pump unit for the DX engine. Has anyone used one of these pumps? I'm thinking a complete unit is just a straight swap so would save on cost re time taken. I'm a senior GTI driver so don't do as much myself. Manxone. :)

Worth doing the box oil if its not been done in a while

A lot of people like Redline MTL in higher mileage boxes as it helps cover up syncro crunches. Standard genuine VW spec stuff will be fine though (75w/90 from memory), 2LTRs will see you right.

As for the waterpump I'm sure the GSF unit will be fine. FEBI or TOPRAN units are ok although a genuine one from the dealer wasn't that much when I did mine a few years ago.

    Hope that helps.
