struggling to select and get into some gears at times when driving or setting off, is this the clutch giving me a signal its on its way out? not that old around a year and not done many miles so would seem odd or the gearbox? again not very old, as it was rebuilt 20k ago. all new linkage at the same time....

done the old boys test of going slowly in 5th and accerlerating-the speed picks up quite happily with the revs.

just some days it misses a gear when you change so you look like a idiot who is learning to drive or won't select say reverse at times, takes a few attempts to get it in home.

Just sounds like the linkage needs adjusting. The clutch could be sticking on the splines but it's more likely the linkage....

Yeah clutch may need ajusting. If the bite point is not near the top of the pedal then it may be something else

More likely the gearbox linkage which I think is what TSC was referring to. If the clutch bites near the top its unliklely to be the clutch.
