I have a mark 3 2.0 gti P reg, the car is a dream to drive but when i put it in reverse it makes a whining sound and pops out of reverse, when i put my hand on stick it is not fighting to pop out but once i take my hand off it just pops out. Every other gear is perfect can anyone give me advice please
Get yourself a bunge rope and a metal bracket...this is what i had on my old car for 5th on the motorway!!!
I know exactly what this is. I just got the same problem fixed on my Ibiza GTI the other day exact same engine and box. It is not the linkage or engine mount as everyone suggested but I had checked myself and knew it wasn't. It is a bent selector fork inside the gearbox, new box I'm afraid! I was lucky enough to pick up a box from an old mk2 golf 1.6 diesel for free and it is lower geared Ha ha.
