hi all, havnt been on here for a few weeks but have got problems with both cars now.
our polo 1.4 16v has had a noisey gearbox for some time but now it has started to jump out of gear, not good. why would this be?
also im thinking that i'm gonna look out for a box for it now so i wont have to buy a brand new one if it goes, does anybody no if this car shares the same box as any other models or makes. it is a t reg 100 bhp model.
thanks for any help, and if anybody has a gearbox for sale let me know.

If you give me the gearbox code from the white sticker in the service book or in the boot, I'll let you know which models have the same box.

The reason its jumping out of gear could be if it is low on oil or the engine mounts are loose.

thanks harry, the gearbox code is
    LB7Z HE or X2B 1AC
    does this make any sense.
pretty sure its got oil in as its just been serviced and its only 35k so mounts should be good, having said that, the gearbox should be good at that mileage.

Okay, I'll check those numbers out when I get home from work tonight.

The gearbox oil won't be changed on the service as far as I know, so it could be low. Although any leaks should have been spotted.

    Possible gear linkage/cable issue maybe?

the mechanic said he changed it as he gave it the 40k service, so im pretty sure its full and there are no leaks. also it was making a sort of whining noise.
thanks for checking those numbers, much appreciated.
i'll have a look at the linkage and cables, its so tight for space in there though compared with the mk1.

None of those codes are for the gearbox. It'll be 3 letters near the engine code.

6N1 is the type of polo eg the new one is a 9NY.
I think the polo should have a 085 or 020 box on that year.
