readin the haynes manual b4 startin this in the mornin ..do i need to take off the exhaust downpipe ??and do i also need a spline tool or will allen keys surfice ???can i just free the box and drop it straight out or am i showing my ignorance here??
No manifold doesn't come off! Spline tool should be the 8mm, They do stock it in halfords, allen keys could do it, but if it doesn't come of first time you will damage the bolt once the box has nothing holding it, before you undo the the 2 mounts to the body on the gearbox, support the engine!!! Jack is best you need to lower the engine, hence the jack, it is held on by one engine mount (by the cam), so it will angle down slightly. all bolts out, it does just slide off Remember the box weight is 50Kgs ish, help would be required, If your handy with a spanner, & have a clue should be done in 6-8 hours, 2-3 if you've done it before, with breaks
cheers crispy... basic knowleddge of engine replacement but all on mk2 escorts have done CVjoints b4 on santana's but thought takin downpipe off was a bit severe
On a mk2 - don't drop the engine and 'box down too far or it *will* get jammed , also turn the box so the 'diff is uppermost then it will drop out, once you've battled with the drive flanges catching on the flywheel Remove the fan shroud so you can see to line up the front engine mount bracket easier as well Don't forget to re-connect the earth strap if it's a digifart, or you WILL fry your ECU Edited by: G_V_K
I'll meet you in the middle 35Kg, I say that cos I lift 25Kg daily When your underneath, on the floor holding the box above your head, it feels like 100Kg Edited by: Crispy 8V
