almost got the golf gti on the road, thanks to those with the brakes help, was easier to change the calipers than i had thought.

ive got problems with what i think is the diff in the g/box. when you jack the car up, turn the wheel so you can kick it round to spin it every now and again it clunks. does the same both sides that why reckon its the diff or g/box. when driving it there is a clicking sound as if a cv was gone but also every now and again it clunks heavily as its under more load than a free rotating wheel.

anyone also think its the diff or g/box?? cant be suspension as ive checked all the bushes all bottom arms etc and theres no play anywhere, the shocks are almost new.

are the g/boxes hard to change? its a b reg 1800 8v with the starter at the front of the g/box through the engine mount.

lastly, anyone in the northwest england southwest scotland area with a g/box for a gti for sale? as local scrap yards dont have any round here.

    thanks, nic barnes
