    what the mk3's?

its all relative, they are faster than a 1 litre micra, but slower than a lambourgini murchielago!! ;)

Their engines are so much better in mk1's and mk2's  ( well the bottom ends!)

After 8 months driving one doesn't seem fast, don't cane me but
before the golf i had a mk3 xr3i cab and when that was running
sweet i would honestly say there wasn't too much difference

But it was only running sweet for all of an hour after i had a new
engine put in it then gearbox blew up typrical ford

As for me golf i'm ready for the other 8v's or 2 cylinders now ;)

the mk4 2litre GTI in inverted commas is a poor excuase for a GTI. The 1.6 mk4 is only o.2 seconds slower 0-60!

is that the performance of a GTI?

    I don't think so!

Hence why the 1.8T, V% and V6 motion were brought in. Oh and the R32! ;)

The 2.0 Mk4 GTI is a good fleet car, and company car drivers like the GTI badge, hence why it exists. It's a nice drive, but not particularly quick!

my friends got a w reg one feels more refined and smoother
than mine, obviously being newer helps but mine is supposed
to be "slow" but his one feels even more lethargic for some
reason evn though i gave it the same stick as i do with mine

V5 is probably the better one to buy quicker than the V6 4 motion plus its still got that wicked engine note.

115bhp in an even heavier car like the mk4 is bound to feel slower! the GTi badge means nothing these days.

yes, I think the MK4 use the AGG engine, which is what the later mk3's use (like mine).

Err, think you should get your facts straight before saying that mate. You are wrong, the V6 4M is faster than any variant of standard V5.

    0-30 x 0-60 x 0- 100 x 1/4 mile

    V5 1503.0 x 8.5 x 24.3x 16.6

    V5 1702.6 x 7.4 x 20.2x 16.1

    V6 4M2.3& nbsp;x 7.2 x 18.2x 15.2

????????????????? Figures suggest otherwise mate, and having driven the 150BHP I thought it was pants ( 170 meant to be much better though). Really lousy pick up, very different to mine

    V5 170

    139MPH - 224km/h
    0-62mph 8.2secs
Max Output 170 at RPM 6200
    Maximum torque 162 lbs.ft / 220 Nm at RPM 3200

    V6 201

    146MPH - 235km/h
    0-62mph 7.1secs
Maximum Output PS 204 at RPM 6200
    Maximum torque 199 lbs.ft / 270 Nm at RPM 3200

and they both feel fatser than that anyway.

I think yours is an AGG then, you can find out by checking under the bonnet, I forget where it's written, but it will be on a sticker/plate somewhere in the engine bay.

As far as it being the best, I dont know. What I do know is that most of the AGG engines suffer a flatspot, when changing at around 6k in first into second is has a flatspot, cured by an ECU remap.
