VW GOLF GTI 8v MK2 1987 Late Type 19 DigiFant

My MK2 GTI engine keeps turning on a cold start unless you press on the accelerator. Once the car has been driven and the engine is hot then it will start on the first go.

Can anyone let me know what the likely problem is ?

ECU temperature sender has to be a first port of call I should think, since the problem seems to be so clearly temperature related?

Be careful on those earlier digifant engines, the sensors are different to the earlier ones. Is the coolant flange alloy or pastic?

    Hi Simon,

I checked with a mate last week, might sensors are the earlier Digifant sensors with the screw, do you know by any chance a part number or when the name for that particular one. I will check tomorrow whether my coolant flange is alloy or plastic

the early one is 035919369M, not cheap at 45+VAT! You can convert to the later one if you also change the front flange and black dash temp sensor plus 2 pin plug (earth the 2nd pin somewhere), but then again once you add up all the parts prob work out about the same price

edit: blue one is 025906041A at 17.49+VAT for comparison
