Looking very nice Smithy That's the problem with being a family man with young kids bank holidays and school holidays we as farthers are in demand lol Maybe we'll get to the Autumn curborough day this year ?
Drove on these around Brands at the end of last year. There were not that bad actually. Car is looking tidy as usual.
All ready for rockingham tomorrow. First outing with the gearbox work and on the new wheels so fingers crossed
What a difference a quaife makes! Along with the final drive change it transforms the car. Power delivery out of the corners is far better, no under rotation or wheel spin from the front loosing traction through weight shift and the final drive change has significantly improved the acceleration. So all in all I'm a happy boy and time well spent over winter! Some images below from the day. I'll try and get some videos up soon. A little help adjusting the shocks lol
I meant to reply to this ages ago but forgot. For info, when drilling metal use a cutting lubricant, it not only makes the drilling quicker but extends the life of your drill bits too Going from an open diff to an LSD is such an eye opening isn`t it
Just read the whole thing mate. Brilliant work. Looked like a really daunting regards to rebuilding the gearbox though. Can't wait to see the benefits of the quaife. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Managed to get one video to work *edit* another video uploaded
The VR really sounds on song now. Massive difference with the diff and final dive. How you finding the 17s
The lower profile tyres on the 17's give a better feel to the handling and the larger wheel is compensated by the final drive. So all together happy with them. I noticed a rumbling on the last few track days so changed the cv joints but still there. Wheel bearings seemed fine but I thought I'd change them anyway only to find one side was fooked when I removed the hub from the drive shaft. So some new bearings and I thought I'd get the uprights blasted while I was at it, on and some news hubs, ball joints etc.... mostly new stuff
Loving the progress on this. What are the wheel specs (width and ET) and what tyre size did you go for in the end? Those AR1's look to be a really good dry weather option, especially for the price. Wheel-wise I'm looking for lighter 17" options to clear my Porsche brakes
Thanks. The wheels are 7x17 e38. I run them with 6mm spacers to allow enough clearance of the shocks but I did need to trim half the lip away from the rear arches to make room for them. The tyres are 215/45. I was pleased with the tyres, they delivered great grip with longevity, responding to the heat they didn't drop off suddenly when too hot unlike other tyres ive used. I would use them again. Some videos below from donington, although it was a wet day so used the federal rsr's, you can hear them queen a little in places where I over pushed them.
