    what he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^

not much point throwing money at the 2.0 8v mk3 engine, its cheapish to insure and its got a bit of low down torque to play with, and you aint gonna change much without spending plenty of $$$. I got quoted 2500 for a VR6 transplant, or 4000 for a 20V Turbo, all in including everything. When you add up cams/manifold/SS system/induction kit/ECU remap/etc..... you have already spent nearly half of the vr conversion anyway and probably only got like 20-30bhp more for your cash.

Add the extra cost of insurance for the mods and you get the picture. I only got a SS system for mine cos the standard item had perished and the SS system was cheaper than VW!

I've heard you can directly bolt on a Mk2 16 gti head onto a mk3 8v block. Not many people have heard of this modification but I heard it from someone qualified. The only thing i haven't found out yet is whether any other parts need to be changed over.
I think that a certain amount of the head needs to be skimmed to achieve the right compression.

Nope nothin wrong witha MKIII - Mine will do 134 flat out and is as quick as my mates 206 GTi to 60... Sounds deadly an handles like a dream. Okay mine aint standard but they are comfy as hell compared to a MKII. I love MKII tho before this starts any argument and I still miss my old Jetta too [:^(] Should have kept it and 1.8T'ed it tho...

Without skimming the head it drops the compression to something like 8.4.[:s]

However... i have seen a lot of people using that as the base for a turbo project. Automatic compression lowering, in this case, can be useful. Plus, you get the added flow of the 16v head. Properly done, these engines are getting as much 275hp.

However, its been quite a while since I last looked into this, so I don't remember the complications with it... VWVortex has some good information on this.

    load of shi]e mate

it will fit but the compression will be stupidly low

fit the whole ABF 16v engine or sell it and buy a VR or 16ver as that will be loads cheaper

How easy would the 16v conversion be? I have done quite a bit of
    engine work before....

Don't want to sell it, loose too much money really.

Tylerrules84, what should the compression be normally? Would it be possible to just skim the new head to get normal compression? ,without having to spend a lot of money on a turbo project (although this does sound extremely interesting!).
