guide for replacing timing belt 1.4

    hi could any give me a step by step guide to replacing the timing belt and waterpump on my mk3 1.4 golf? engine code is abd, i cant find anything anywhere, thanks in advance

    Removal

    Remove:
    Alternator drive belt.
    Timing belt front cover

    Turn crankshaft to TDC on No.1 cylinder. Ensure timing marks aligned Fig.11016.2 & Fig.11016.3.
    NOTE: Engine code PY - align crankshaft pulley 'O' mark with edge of bracket.

    Later models - remove:
    Four crankshaft damper bolts Fig.11016.5.
    Crankshaft damper Fig.11016.6.
    Timing belt lower cover Fig.11016.7.

    All models: Slacken water pump bolts Fig.11016.4.
    Turn water pump anti-clockwise to release tension on belt.
    Remove timing belt.

    Installation

    Ensure timing marks aligned Fig.11016.2 & Fig.11016.3.
    NOTE: Engine code PY - align crankshaft pulley 'O' mark with edge of bracket.

    Fit timing belt.
    NOTE: Ensure belt is taut between sprockets on non-tensioned side.

    Turn water pump clockwise to tension belt. Use screwdriver.
    NOTE: Belt is correctly tensioned when it can just be twisted with finger and thumb through 90 at .

    Tighten water pump bolts to 10 Nm.
    Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise.
    Ensure timing marks aligned Fig.11016.2 & Fig.11016.3.
    Check belt tension.
    Install components in reverse order of removal.
    Later models: Tighten crankshaft damper bolts to 20 Nm Fig.11016.5.

    Water pump you should be able to unbolt and remove, brute force may be required to remove it from the block.

    Can't remember on these if they have a tin plate that has to be removed before you remove the water pump, you'll see once you get the covers off.
