needing a new headunit i go down to my local halfords, seeing a nice alpine unit for 199 (down from 249), i ask a few questions as to the benefits of buying this over the cheap units in the ex display section - and get the "i must have" syndrome you always get when buying stuff haha...

anyway to cut a long story short i whack this on my gold card and away i go, thinking wow what a good deal fifty quid off......

i get home, punch the model number (9881rb) into google expecting to see it online for perhaps 20 less, which i wouldn`t have been to bothered about as i had it in like 5 mins of wanting it (not 5 days like on the net).... but NO

133 + 6 p+p.... WTF haha... straight back to the shop and refund!

thats a scandal, how in gods name could they say the unit was ever up for 249.

I was also just about to recommend Car Audio Direct as well. I do find Halfords useful for many things, especially tools, and I spend a fair bit of money on tools and things from Halfords. But would never, ever buy a head unit from them.

Whats the official name of those little cubby hole pockets you put in the vacant head unit gap?

I used to work at halford in the Ripspeed department (oh what fun i had with the chavs).

Anyway i totally agree i would never buy stereo equipment from Halfords as they are seriosly overpriced even with staff discount.

I also use car audio direct.

And serpah we used to just call them Facia adaptors doubt that would be the correct name though.

If you need that for a mk4 golf i wouldn't bother. Get the propper one from vw, it fits a lot better.

Halfrauds do have some bargains sometimes in their reduced bins. Picked up an unused ?JBL amp for 15, 2 channel top of range one!
