I've done a forum search and a web search and cant find that much on the subjest. I've heard it's difficult due to the differing lenth in the intake tracts for adjacent cylinders. Could this be overcome by using bike carbs?
Have you had a look on VWVortex, there's a couple over there. There are a couple of ways of getting around the inlet lengths, the easiest is to vary the trumpet lengths.
Grantley Woodhatch (ie Grant Motorsport) had TBs on his Vento racer - the non VW cup one he used to used for the Castle Combe saloons c/ship. White car with red detailing, grille, twin headlamps etc. I believe he still has the car so a passing visit may provide you a few pointers on manifolds/fabrication ideas.
If you want some cheap carbs to mess around with, try some Alfa specialists. Early Alfa GTV6's, Maybe Alfa 6's too, had a 2.5 V6 on carbs....triple sidedraft Dellortos (some had Webers or Solexes) Maybe some Lancias too You might get some linkage and manifold ideas from them too...or or even something to chop up and refabricate. erm...they weren't noted for their frugal fuel consumption though...
I cant see why you would want 3 carbs to adjust / tune etc. I cant really see why anyone spends money NA tuning a VR6 actually. Apart from the R32 which seems to be strangled from the factory. Spend a fortune and get a 5% gain.
why would it be? They are throttle bodies anyway arent they? even so, the vr6 doesnt flow particularly well so I hear, so traditional engine tuning isnt going to work very well. Its to do with the odd layout.
