Hi, does anyone else have a large black plastic/rubber like pad stuck on the boot floor on the right of the space saver? I saw a picture of another mk2 that did not have this which made me curious. Also, i cannot find the chassis label thats supposed to be next to the tailgate catch?
Not sure on golfs but some cars have that as sound deadening and as for the sticker mine was on the back of the clossing panel so you had to open the boot and lean forward and look like your looking between your legs
The only way to tell is by inspecting the car for non-factory welds and seam sealer, aftermarket panels, unusual rust, etc. Sometimes those boot stickers can just peel off.
Definately haven't seen anything like that before? Have you tried peeling it back to have a look? Regards to the sticker, i may have just peeled off over time tbh... I think mine isn't there!
that looks normal(apart from the sound-deadening) looking at the lower photo, where the rear-panel joins the boot-floor,the seam sealer under the paint looks original.
I would say its hiding rust. Look at the bottom right corner, seems to be some rust gathering in there!
Removed the sticky sound deadning pad (what a ball ache) and luckily its all good underneath. I removed that cork-matting stuff from under the spare wheel as it was coated in some sort of oil and looked nasty.
Can't be there to stop the spare scratching the paint as the lift pump covers just above it and that's situated just behind the rear bench to the right as you look in from standing at the boot. Can't remember having it in any of my other mk2's i'v owned but I'l have a look at mine and my brothers current mk2's tomorrow and see if we have that patch and let you know. as for the sticker in the boot i'v never seen one yet. mind you its the first time i'v butchered any of my golfs.
