got a quote to do the head on my mk3 golf 1.4clcause its leaking oil, he said its gona cost between 250-300 thats for skiming head, headgasket an the other gaskets around that area ie manifold etc, new cambelt and head bolts etc

is this sound right for the price???

just dont want to get ripped off

Head gaskets do not normally cause external oil leaks. It's not impossible, just rare.

I would get a second opinion.

You'd be a fool not to get a second opinion at least.

Unless you have money to burn, in which case you wouldn't be driving a 1.4 in the first place.

ok am not good on the engine side of things but it does look like it is coming from the head. it aint the rocker gasket cause i had the engine steam cleaned an its drip from the head down to near the alternator.

could be the head gasket, maybe worth looking at the camshaft oil seal that end tho, the cover just clips off. That rocker cover don't look right, you haven't warped the head through overheating have you?

Doesn't look like it losing much but my money's on the camshaft oilseal as above or the rocker cover gasket where is goes over the camshaft bearing cap.

Convinced it's not the head gasket.......
