    Hiya guys

I've fitten my head unit and it will not turn off when i turn the ignition key to off. It just carrys on like usual

the postive wire on the golf is contant 12v. I'm guessing this is where the problem lyes. because when u turn the ignition key off it carrys on supplying 12v.

I've only got 3 wires conected to power the headunit.
    Positive, Ground and illumination.

the positive goes into the wires of the headunit and splits of to the contant 12v as well.

anyone got any ideas.... i just want it to go off and fold away when i turn ignition off.

    Cheers guys

    rite,

if you have a mk2 then there isnt acctually an ignition on/off

you will need to wire one in, the best way (i was told - i havent tried it) is it wire it to your fan control - as this is only live when the ignition is on it is also close to your sterio there for easier than wireing it directly to the ignition.

    then it should work

ok then i'll try that. should i put the +12v main positive wire as a constant 12v feed then? so i have 2 powers going to head unit. 1 for contant 12v and 1 for on/off ignition and main power going to head unit.

Wont it make the fan less powerful seeming the headunit will be powering 2 front components and 2 6x9s.

    Chears for your help Tim.

i think the ignition wire is like an amp remote turn on, (so it knows when it should be on or off) it isnt used constantly for the power once on, (that is how i understand it, but i am probably wrong, some one like tubthumped will know this,)

sorry i cant really help you with that!

put the wire with the constant 12v supply to positive conection, put the wire from the fan into the on/off connection

this only needs a small feed and willnot power your speakers the full 12v feed from the battery will do that

if you power the headunit both from the fan then when you switch your ignition off the headunit will go off but you will lose all your audio settins aswell like bass levels balance levels position of the cd you were last playing, the headunit needs a constant 12v supply to keep the things in its memory

if you have the 12v constant supply and the feed form the fan it will switch off when you switch off the ignition and save your cd settings

    hope that helped.

wire from fan to 12v feed?
wire from battery to contant feed?

so the fan wire is only telling it when to turn on and off.

I'm going to finish it all off tomorrow.

    Chears for your help

    take your HU out,

then take the panel below it, with the fan controls on, (you need to pull the slider handles off and also the fan speed crontrol off) then pull the palstic surround away, and there it is,

    Only just seen this..

Time, you are right. You only need a small voltage spike to activate the HU.
