A good video clip showing heel and toeing... clicky This is taken from the racers forum at www.circuitdriver.com
hehe, I find it really easy to heel and toe in the polo. Haven't driven a mk2 yet thoguh to compare. I need to get back out on track again to practice heel and toe then straight into left foot braking. Now thats easy to mess up, too eager and your left foot lacks the judgement and just hammers on the brakes instead of gently applying pressure to smooth the transistion to throttle.
Been a few threads on here about it, but basically in a mk2 they have too much brake pedal travel and the when braking hard brake pedal is too low to allow the blip on the throttle. [:^(] It's really easy in Claire's R32 though. http://media.putfile.com/GVK6 Edited by: GVK
This is on my mates race car... raised brake and clutch pedals. Certainly helps him counter the height difference for his brake and throttle.
that is a very good idea....though i never had any prob with the brake pedal travel on both my old mkII gti and the mkII driver i picked up on saturday.
I have the same issue with my Mk1 with the brake pedal travel. It just requires a change of technique. Instead of merely rolling the foot over onto the throttle (the preferred and easier way to execute IMO), I literally have to bend my foot up, as if I'm standing on tip toes on the brake pedal, so that my heel is then at the same level as the throttle, then pivot my whole foot over to "mash" the throttle pedal. It's clumsy and takes a lot of practice, but I have managed to perfect it during a season's racing. acf8181 - Did you get the DVD on the Silverstone course with your 'Go Racing' pack? In there is a demonstration of the technique I'm referring to above, where you do have this excess brake pedal travel. The contrasting technique of course is the popular vid of Michael Vergers feet in a Radical. Left foot braking is something I've not tried yet.
If you're referring to the Silverstone DVD, yes there was a white Cossie, driven by Steve Deaks, who's one of the senior instructors I think at the racing school.
keith - yeah, was a vid when i was on the course (was a while back ), but i also have that clip on my computer. i use the technique you're refering to in my mr2. gvk - but i ain't dead!
I got around this probleeerrrrm by left foot braking and ignoring the clutch. and as the lemming said only once. "so far so good"
Skateboard grip tape on the pedals, like in the video, helps a bit on golf where you get a tip toe action with the soggy brake pedal. Best thing I ever found for h/t was a Talbot Solara
Its not so bad on older cars as you can bend pedals and alter stops etc to help. Not so easy with fancy ass fly by wire crap like on the Lupo. Using an old Polo to run around at the moment so H and t'ing everywhere, braking for traffic lights etc. People on the street look at me like i'm an idiot!
My Civic Type R was wicked to heel & toe in, especially in the VTEC zone! The throttle was quite sensitive and didn't need much of a shove to raise the revs. The brake pedal was also quite firm, so you could just use the 'roll' technique. Not quite as easy in my 'N' reg Rover 800! But still, it can be pulled off.
Brake pedal on the Lupo has next to no travel. Even when its hard down, the throttle pedal is still about and inch and a half lower. Need to break me foot and re-set it to suit!
