I bought a debadged grill off ebay the other day.

Its a pretty crap copy but I got it to fit with some gentle persuasion.

One thing I can't quite sort out is the gap between the bonnet and the grill, I'm not sure what to adjust so the gap is much smaller.

    picture speaks a thousand words.

Closer view of the gap. You can even see the screw =/

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Debadged grilles in most cases look dreadful anyway...

Only thing you can really do to adjust your bonnet is screw the rubber plugs on either side of the slam panel in a bit. Otherwise unbolt the bonnet enough to move it around.

Shame. I've had the original 4 light grill since I've had the car (9 years). I just fancied a change :(

OK mate, I'll have a look at moving the bonnet but I'm a bit apprehensive, I might mess the gaps up between the wings and scuttle panel.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
EDIT: Can't move the bonnet stops lower as the bonnet is fouling on the top of the grill already. Its made it more difficult to shut the bonnet now, got to give a really firm shove for it to close.

Do VW still sell the single headlight grill?

    I bet they cost a fortune =/

if the bonnet lines up with the wings and scuttle then don't mess about moving it. Irregular and large panel gaps on the metal work will look worse than any slight mismatch with the grille.

tbh it doesn't look too bad, mk2's don't have really tight gaps anyway.

I haven't gone out to have a look at it yet but I'm too reluctant to start messing with the bonnet for the reasons you state.

I will see if I can chop and sort the grill out with some gentle persuasion. If I cock it up, I've still got the original in the garage anyway.

I've got some pics of mk2's with a debadged grill and the gap is really small, a perfect fit. Maybe I should get a branded one, FK or so?

    I've been thinking....

It's as if the top part of the grill where it is screwed to the slam panel needs to go back a bit, maybe 10mm or so.

yeah, original 4 lamp grill fits perfect.
I'm wondering how I can get it back a few mm more.

Maybe I should try a little gentle persuasion. [:D]

ha ha. hammer spings to mind.
maybe undo and move the slam panel back, but you may not be able to close the bonnet
