you could try paying for it, then you'd get full support.

'For MODERN SERIAL Interfaces' is the one you need as windows recognises that 3rd party USB cable as a virtual serial device. Simple cable and unregistered vag com helped me solve lots of ABS and airbag faults and save myself probably a good 600 for the sake of a 10 cable and some research

Right, this is doing my noggin right in!!!

I've bought the cable through ebay (see link from earlier in thread) and followed all instructions to the letter (as far as I am aware). I have tried both 409.1 releases ("For MODERN SERIAL Interfaces" and "For the TWIN-USB Interface") and when I run a test in VAG COM I get...

    Port Status: OK
    Interface: Not Found!

I have done this as per instructions before connecting to car. I have tried all the port options and got the same message.

What am I doing wrong. Please help!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, whats the car, engine, is it a conversion etc.

I put a diagnostics port into my mk2 golf with the ABF and at first igot the same response from VAGCOM as you, turned out i didn't have a decent enough live connected to my diagnostics port, hence it wouldn't power the cable (interface)

    Hi Carl.

The vehicle is a 1998 mk3 16v. Following the instructions from the cable manufacturers and VAGCOM, I'm meant to install the drivers, then VAG COM software, then with the cable connected to the PC but not car, run a test. This is where I have no luck.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Am gonna have to have a nit more of a mess I think.

Have you got the ignition on in the car when running it?

Going to have to hold my hands up here to being a proper ****. Whilst re reading the instructions AGAIN but this time sober, I realised I had totally missed out the 'connect to the car' bit and had assumed the test was to test that the cable was being seen properly by the computer. What a dumb f*@!

I expect everything will work fine when I get in tonight.
