Hi Folks. I need to make a strut removal tool for the weekend. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the lobe on the end. Height - Width - Length
no but i use a old ground down screwdriver with a hex on it and just put a spanner on the hex and turn and the strut drops out i used to use a chisel before that but got fed up with it jumping out halfway through taking the strut out you know me i'm a bit RAF lol
I have a pair of sockets designed for this purpose (assuming the purpose is to prise open the bit at the bottom of the strut). This kind of thing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Audi-B...218161?hash=item3cfc236e31:g:AnQAAOSwBvNTo1DR Any good for measurements?
Ta so sSon. You should know by now that I attempt to do things 'proper like'! You must also know that I have spent many hours making special tools to do just one job once! Sad or what? sDa. ?RAF?
You are a most brilliant and uber good guy Herr Brun! Those dimensions are obviously both ends of T20198!
I have not yet decided what I might use, so thanks for the tip. I shall have a look at what old kit I have tomorrow that might suit.
RAF = rough as fuc how wide is the slot 6mm plus grind two points down to about the size of the slot and round it a bit that way you will have two flats as a stop and it won't spring back when your trying to remove the strut
The small one is about 7mm x 4mm and the bigger one 8mm x 5mm. I could get more exact measurements if only I knew how this works -
No it's from 3/4" UNF cap heads torqued to 400 ft/lbs getting wet and a bit rusty tight in close quarters lol I also shear Allen sockets off with my 3/4" impact wrenches
That is a very pretty, and cleverly simple, 'Vernier' calliper gauge! My own, about 40 years old, is much more complex and the gradations on it are so small that I can't read them anymore even with my reading glasses on! I now have a cheap and nasty Lidl digital calliper gauge! Thanks once again, but your first post is absolutely perfect for my needs! please don't go to anymore trouble on my behalf.
That sounds fair enough. Even I have been know to shear things when attacking rusted threads! http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.p...ing-with-it!&p=2417777&viewfull=1#post2417777
I was looking in my 'HEX' - ALLEN key drawer for an old 8mm key and saw this. I don't remember making it, but it was before the days of cut-off wheels as the end of the 10mm key has obviously been cut using a tungsten carbide hacksaw blade! I'll make something like it from using an 8mm key. Cut end. I found this butchered one. Obviously cut with a wheel to make something or other! First job. Grind the ends to 5.0000000mm. I did both ends so I will have two tools. One like T20198 and my own design. I roughed out the shape on a pair of bench grinders that I have. One has a coarse 6" wheel. The other is smaller and has a fine 4" wheel. I finished the shape on the long end with diamond needle files. The hardest part of this was getting the shoulders dead square! Turns out it is a uber high quality GKN key I am destroying. Shame they don't make tools any more! Tomorrow I shall finish the job.
