My son Ben's ED30 has been offered for sale on CGTI for a couple of weeks now, and no one has made an offer! SO. What IS the best place to try to sell it? Any advice would be much appreciated. Regards, Dave
Just be aware of ebay bidders hyping the price up winning then cancelling their order. There seems to be limited action you can take ie blacklisting. But that's after being messed about. Makes you realize why some ads have a feedback caveat. Costs can also creep-up if you add a reserve price etc etc. You could advertise on Gumtree which is free. There are a few on there atm.
When I sold mine, I had it on Gumtree, Autotrader, on here and a few other forums, Facebook marketplace (never again) Had so many scammers and timewasting messages and phone calls at midnight ffs!! - on most platforms tbh , and sold it eventually to a guy who lives about 1/2 mile away!
Gumtree shpock and marketplace (FB) will generate nothing but soap dodgers offering eight pence cash and a pit bike for it, either that or offers of full asking price just as long as you are OK accepting cash from the DHL driver as the buyer is out of the country on business, usually from a man who's name has no vowels in it. A classified ad on ebay is a good shout as it allows a fixed price listing and just invites people to ring if they want to view. That coupled with an autotrader advert should see you right. From memory I advertised mine in both the above ways and only had one timewaster who fancied a morning out pretending he wanted to buy a car - the second viewer viewed, bought, and drove away. Best of luck with the sale
It doesn’t matter where you advertise it you will get the nuisance callers. I tried to sell a Juke turbo on auto trader and eBay and ended up selling to WBAC at lower than the right price for it just to do away with the hassle. I would go eBay but fixed price and do your best to assess those who contact you. Don’t put a phone number so you get an eBay message first and then you can assess their feedback and go from there. You’ll quickly work out the time wasters from the genuines.
Thanks: Andy, Gary, Richard and Phil. Great advice. Glad I asked. I shall pass all of your comments on to Ben. Regards, Dave.
I dread to think what kind of offer WBAC would insult him with. Out of interest did he look at part exchanging it when he got the replacement? Appreciate no place for it on dealer forecourt but would have expected VW to at least understand its value.
No part exchange because he, supposedly, had a customer for it. Sod's Law, of course, the guy changed his mind!
I would say a phone number will actually deter timewasters. In my experience dickheads prefer to send loads of pointless messages and seldom pick up the phone
