I remember a while back a feature in Rabbit (poss also in the golf) showing the drawings to make an arch rolling tool from the VW jack in the boot, but can't find it in my kept magasines,

anyone know what issue it was in or got a copy of the drawings on their Pc they can send to me,

    cheers

Dunno bout it being in Rabbit, don't recall that. It is in the Golf though - May 2003. Has a yellow MkII on the front.

I also have a copy of the diagrams on my lappy I could send.

On a slightly different note, I was chatting with a guy at the weekend who said he could press out the parts needed to make one of these. Would you be interested in me finding out a price? Would probably be cheaper than having just one of each piece done.

    hi,

i'd be interested in getting a set pressed out, i'd appreciate it if you can me a price. i might need to adjust the dimensions of the part that holds the roller as i've got a nylon one from work for it so would want to build the tool around that,

will send a PM with my email address if you can fwd the drawings as well,

    thanks

    Post resurrected!!

Sorry about the delay to the guys that registered some interest all those months ago. The guy I was speaking to about the parts seems to have disappeard of the face of the earth. [:s]

But I finally have prices for said parts to make a DIY arch roller. Is anyone interested in the kit?

Or, I might even be able to knock a few up as a completed item. Again, anyone interested?

    Cheers

I would. As long as its cheaper than getting my arches rolled elsewhere

    OK, here's the prices:

If I buy the pieces to make me one tool the parts from the fabricator alone will cost 315.

But, if I can get enough people together the price per kit comes down to 100 a set.

I've only found these tool commercially available for around 400. I saw one of these "home made" tools go for 250 on Ebay. So, if anyone is interested, let me know ASAP so we can all save some cash!!!

I'm also looking into rollers, with bearings, to fit this kit. Prices on those will be put up when I get em.

Capnahab - I think this tool will work out cheaper than getting them done at the bodyshop, even if you only use it once. But with the tool you can obviously do it multiple times, and for mates. Could even charge others and get your money back that way. The main reason I'm making this tool is that Premier quoted me 50 a corner to have my arches rolled and I'm loathed to pay that.

    Cheers

Oh, also meant to say, I've adapted the design a little so they will work on cars from 4x95.25 (Rover MGFs) to 5x130 (Porsches) and everything in-between. So don't think these will only ever be useable on Dubs, cos they should do pretty much anything. :)

    Cheers

The tools a bit crap to be honest, doesnt have the adjustability that a pro one has.

I found mine a right pain to use on my arches having to wind the coilover up and down to get the hub even close to where it needed to be

Could you not have just put a jack under the wishbone or swing arm?

Modifications details greatly recieved as nothing has been made yet. ;)

You can do that if it needs to go up yes. but if the strut wont go down far enough to allow it to hit the arch in the right place its pretty useless ;)

The jack basically needs to be more adjustable for the length of the arm with the wheel on, and it needs to be able to adjust the angle the wheel makes with the arch.

It just wasnt making a good angle of force on the lip to fold it the way i was wanting it to

Not bad, but not that good.

Mine only cost me 4 to make aswell ;)

So what we need is more telescopic adjustment and roller angle adjustment.

Just had a look at a professional one and I reckon it's do-able with this with a few small changes.

4! Well done. Use an old brake disk by any chance?
