Thought I'd get some pics up of the mk2 2.1 16v I'm in the middle of. The car used to own to a mate of mine that had an MJ cream leather interior fitted, and Ex John Jones/Maurice Reeves 2.1 16v engine, Koni coilovers, Porsche brake setup, fully smoothed, G60'd etc etc. The original plan was to convert it to throttle bodies, do this and that, my own head etc, but took a turn just after I bought it and lost total interest. But...................... It's finally coming together. Gone are the 17's and Porsche brakes for std. 16v cross drilled brakes and 9x16" Borbet A's. All new wishbones and joints etc. Flush boot will go eventually, Nitrous if all goes well and some other bits and bobs. Full engine spec will be: Head: Fully reworked 027 casting Stainless inconol oversize valves, 3 angle seats etc Autotec springs Newmans solid lifters Nemans 304 deg. cams Kent verniers(x3) Titanium spring caps. Block: 16v John Jones Tall black, not sure on the code as it actually says KR lol-reworked to accept rods. Block decked a few thou New JE 9a 83.5mm pistons INew H beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts Funky hotgolf diesel crank/fully reworked/ligthened/balanced Machined int. shaft Bildon windaged and baffled sump ARP main bolt conversion Seperate mains and thrust bearings Fully lightened and balanced flywheel/pressure plate. Will be running a Quaife 6spd. dog box, with an OBX LSD Modified Magnex 4 branch with a 2.5" flexi fitting instead of the 2" mated to a 2.5" Mongoose stainless system. Heat wrapped due to the downpipes being so close to the bulk head. 45 Dellorto carbs with 40mm chokes. Facet red top, Filter king reg. Interior as said, an MJ retrim onto std. 16v seats. SWG/Vortex console. Nothing special here lol. Anyway, I got some pics of what I've done to the engine so far and of some bits and bobs, I'll get more up the further along I go. I hoping it'll be up and running in 3 weeks time Before after: oPistons sitting low due to no bigends in place, they now sit slightly proud of the block Bloody close!! Quaife 6spd next to the old 2y with quaife diff thats going into my old 2042cc, but with the same engine as what I'm building for myself. loads of machining in the head to get the cams to clear! Getting there thanks to. Good lad! 1 messy interior. Couple of little extras but nothing to shout about. New big end shell, odd looking cut out but fits perfectly with no issues Well thats it so far. Fingers crossed another week and the head will be together and ready to go on. Need to find a decnt VR sprung friction disk, couple of odds and sods and I can drop it all in as 1. Cam timing maybe an issue as the figures I have are pretty vague, but I'll have a play about on the rollers. And keep the timing results to myself unless Newmans want to buy them off me for my time/research I miss this: but the mk2 will be far better on my fragile back Anyway, I'll try and keep this up-to-date and let you know when it's on the road
very nice, was wondering if you ever sold it Im sure you will be glad to have kept it once its all done......expecting this will be another high torque, high revving 200+bhp n/a monster!
tris told me about this car . looks loads better with the new rims and that engine is going to be sweet . top work dude
Awesome work! Looks ten times better on the Borbets, love that wheel on mk2's. Seriously loved your mk1!
top work going on there my mate brought your mk1 of u have u heard the stories about it since he brought it of u
Ref the mk1 , dry your eyes - It's back on the road tho, and to add insult to injury the bonnet flipped up on the way to Stealth the day after. Still made good power on the rollers! Cool mk2 Mart!
Should be an interesting thread - I was mighty impressed with the output of the Mk1 engine. Is this going the previous Mk1 engine taken a stage further? From the archives.... Motoring News classifieds, 4/11/1998
