    Hi Guys,
I am in the process of doing a 1.8T in a mk2 Golf gti 16V. I have stripped the old donor car and have engine swinging with wiring loom ready. I have read and printed a few wiring instructions from Rubjonny plus another. The only current question I have in my mind is regarding the ECU immobilizer. I have the clocks, the ring sensor off the key barrel and the key as I have the full car at my unit. How do I wire in the immobilizer into the ECU so it will start (assuming I get everything else correct)? I have asked Jonny but its all gone quiet:cry:

Alternatively the immo needs to be defeated in the ECU.

    agree with above.

you will find it soo much easier, sending the ecu off to get the immob defeated, then missing around with the key fob and ignition barrel. It also means (if you want) you can keep your standard clocks too. (in my opinion, mk4 clocks look out of place in a mk2 dash but its your choice)

could stuff the clocks up into the dash i suppose [lOL]

all they woudl need is ecu diagnostics wire plus earth, a live and ign live feed to work. then wire out from them to your diagnostics port. i always wondered if a mk3 type immob box would work, im pretty sure it will or ifg not a later polo/lupo type one as they use mk4 era ecus...

Cheers Toyotec, i will. I am still curious though. I have on my bench and not at all needed, clocks, key, barrel and ring. Surely you strip the tiny part out of the clocks you need, wire the feed, earth and ign to that part and bundle it all up into a tiny package that fits under the dash? I just dont understand how it works, or even what it is? Its just wires, pcb and power, it cant be casting a spell on.the ECU to work or not?!

The chassis and immo code is stored in the cluster in a chip, making the vehicle harder to steal.
For certain key vehicle modules to work, they must be matched or 'married' to this combination.

A defeat is definitely the way forward

Some immo tools claim switch the immobilizer off in the ECU
I have two that have this never been brave enough to try it lol
As they are not the most reliable things at the best of times

As I found out to my cost once
Always upload the file twice now and not just copy it

How much is the defeat of my current ECU? My only reluctance is I know the car started and ran as I drove it in! If I change anything I will be questioning if the ECU is now the source of the problem. I am a pessimistic control freak, its always done me pround!
