I`m thinking of building a 2,0l 8v engine, whit double carb`s 40mm or something like that... how much power wil i get whit that and a 276 cam shaft? wil it be a reliable engine?
reliable yes carbs on a 8v? i personally wouldn't go for that set up due to the carbs being at the rear of the engine and not getting the best airflow etc 16v would suit you better. power with that cam. around 140ish at the fly?
sounds nice.... actually i want a crossflowhead, but they are hard to get! would it be a good idea to make a sheild around the carbs whit a air intake that goes to the front of the car? never seen that on carb powerd cars....any oppinions???
yes it would be a good idea to shield them from the heat, the problem is on the mk1 on th e8v block your going to be directly over the exhaust manifold which will be pretty toasty at times, that and have as much airflow as you can to them. ducting both sides would really aid their performance. think some one on here has that set up with ducting? maybe in a purple mk1?
i have searched around on thsi forum, but cant find exact infos about what engine i can take the crossflow headfrom, and what mods i need to do on the hesd to make it fit...
Crossflow heads are easy to get. Beetle 2.0 8v is your most likely source. You just won't be able to pick one up for 20 like a mk1/2/3 GTI head.
what sort of price are you looking at for a beetle head? also would it fit on to a mk3 2l bottom end? (once i have my 2 liter driver sorted im thinking of going crossflow with a set of lovely jublie carbs) tim
there is a similar question asked in this months golf+ they said to use a ABA head from a mk4 golf/jetta, but then went on to say use the whole engine for the extra torque.
the x-flow heads out flows a std counter flow head by quite a bit, 7mm stem valves help with this was told today that mines ready for collection!
