the limiter is there to limit the engine, not to keep it there for 30-40 seconds flat

uh huh, but what will it actually do/damage within the engine? i know over revving is bad, but he isnt actually going past the limiter

eeek, I feel bad when i've hit the limiter for a split second before shifting but that's taking the pee...

saying that, when jap cars go drifting and burn rubber, don't they sit on the limiter? if so how do they handle it.

mine has seen the limiter once in its time with me. i barely ever go past 6400rpm, the power tails off after that anyway

will there be sufficent unburnt fuel to end up with bore wash?

reving an engine when there's is no load on it (out of gear) is a sure fire way to damage it!

over rev your engine, internal parts can't keep up. and make contact with other parts that they shouldn't or fail due to being over stressed or stressed in the wrong way, ie with no load on the engine.

In response to muppet9966, older engines with carbs used to have a mechanical limiter built into the rotor arm that cut the engine out until it dropped past a certain amount of revs then it started again. Newer engines are limited by the ECU.

Old mechanical limiters were very harsh in operation
Ignition - no ignition - ignition again
Nasty shocks and forces in an engine running flat out

mine has a mechanical one on the distributor arm set to 6300 on my 8v & i always used to hit it in every gear every day under load for 123,000 miles without any harm done (didn't help gear times) but that guy is an idiot.
