There are two versions to the Mk3 Turbo Diesel, one is the direct injection (TDi) and the other is the earlier indirect or mechanical injection (TD). I used to own the mechanical injection (TD) version and there is no chip available for this engine. However I took my car down to Allard Turbo Sport who mechanically adjusted the fuel timing and turbo boost pressure to give extra power. They also fitted a rather large intercooler and the initial result was good. I also had a JR induction kit that sounded excellent and the car gave off a rather nice whistle when I put the foot down.

The TDi is 90bhp whereas the TD is 75bhp.

A 'JR' induction kit is what I had used, can't remember which website I ordered it from as it was years ago. If your really looking for good power gains, I'd recommend buying a Mk3 TDi, as the tuning potential for that car is excellent. The guys at Allard tuned one to 169bhp and over 200lbs of torque at a mere 2000 revs!

    However I got bored of the Mk3 and bought a Mk1 instead (2.0 16v).
