Just wondering - im gonna get another car, and keep my golf, but where do i stand as far as the insurance goes?

Do i have to take out two seperate policies, or can i just drive one fully comp and the other third party on the same policy?

I noticed a lot of forum users have 2 cars + - considering im paying 600 f/c on the golf, if i got another, would i just double the figure??

    Hope somebody can advise...! [:^(]

You can only drive a car using the TP element of a policy on another car if the car in question has a policy in itself. So you need to insure both on two policies mate.

Most common way is to have a second policy. V expensive till u get the no claims built up. Unless u go for seriously limited mileage on a classic car.

Some insurance companies will cover both cars on one policy, but they are few and far between and it can get v v expensive if u prang one.

Best bet is to ring round. try the one your with now, get the shock out of the way, then go for the specialists!! [:D] [:D]

& forget about doing it if you live in a high crime rate area like me where most performance & specialist companies refused to insure me!? [:x]

That's not true in all cases, though some policies do require the vehicle to already be insured. The more important point is that the third party cover applies only to vehicles not owned by you.

Usually you will only use your second vehicle for a limited mileage and there are plenty of 'enthusiast' policies out there at reasonable cost.

The vehicle dosent always have to be insured and you can drive it 3rd party -- however you still need MOT and TAX (which requires some sort of insurance)+ it can't be in your name.

I have a limited mileage polict on my dub and 3rd party TFT on my daily runner

    Yes it's a bit expensive :(

I've got a separate policy for each of my two cars with HIC. They are giving me my no-claims discount on both policies, which I understand most other companies will not do - please correct me if I am wrong there.

My 16V MK2 is 160, limited to a few thousand miles, and I can't remember how much my daily runner 8V is. Very cheap though.

Admiral did the same for me...I had 4 NCB on the Corrado and wanted a separate policy for the Golf (I think theres a legal 2 month limit to how long you can have 2 cars insured on one policy).. any way they just GAVE me 5years NCB on the Golf.. I think they figured whilst I was driving that I was reducing their overall exposure by not driving the VR...

Last time I did that I didn't get my NCB discount on the second car. Is that common?
