Well its that time of year again

Ive got a mk3 golf Gti (8 valve) with a few modificatios - im 22 (nearly 23) with 4 years no claims.

    The modifications are :

Induction kit, cat back exhaust, lowered 30 mm, badgless grill, ABT front spoiler, single wiper and angel eyes.

Now last year I paid 940 with Adrian flux. Phoned them up and they will give a ring back today with a re-quote. Now I thought id look around just in case I can get it cheaper.

So far my cheapest quote is........

    3000 [:x]

How can they justify that sort of money its more than what the cars worth! Now I know why people drive around with no insurance.

What about Admiral? I know they are the best for standard, don't know about mods though.

They were the cheapest by a mile when I was looking. Even now I'm happy just to renew rather than looking about.

What insurance group is a mk2 8v anyway?

MK3 Golf GTI 2.0 8v is group 14... Lots of companies seem to say it's group 15 though. [:s]

That's what you get if you declare your mods I guess... It's a hot hatch to start with. :(

    Try elephant.co.uk I'm 23 with no years no claims and I'm paying 636 for a mk3 GTi 16v, lowered 40mm.

I tried elephant they were the ones that quoted 3000 - their excuse was any more than 3 mods and its goes up quite a bit

I love that. So they'll want a fortune if you've fitted an air freshener, a Club GTI sticker, a kid seat and a non-OEM wiper blade...

As others have said, try HIC.

Just declare the exhaust, lights and induction kit? Let's face it, a single wiper is hardly something they'll refuse to pay out over...

Having said that, if you've asked for a quote with the mods, they'll clock onto the fact that you've got them when you take a policy out.

My 2.0 8v Vento is going to cost me around 340 FC at the next renewal.

I'll be 23 and have full ncb- that price includes the ncb being protected.

Tesco and Directline have always been cheap for me, but I appreciate that my car isn't modified and that does make a big difference.:)

The best advice is to just phone around as many places as possible, it's a pain in the arse but its the only way to save money!

Well ive just bought another years worth of insurance for............

    870 :)

Was a bit more than what I expected but ive got quite a good offer compared to the rest of them. I got a quote off of Adrian Flux and they said they could do it for 850 but with no protected no claims - Tesco said they would do it for 865 with protected. I thought id give HIC a go - he gave me a quote of 870 (not including protected no claims but they wont until you get 5 years worth) but it included breakdown cover, trackday cover - If fire and theft excess of 200 if accidental damage 350. He also told me any future mods that dont effect the BHP of the engine will be covered for free!

Adrain Flux wouldnt even try to be the quote as they wanted proof of it and Tesco wouldnt send out their quote.

So if you need insurance ring the HIC number and ask for Andy - great guy and extremely helpful!

    Thanks for the recomendations!
