Right so, basicaly the cog on the end of my intermediate shaft has just decided it no longer wants to live and has shattered (i dont know how, no noises before this happened, and luckily i was only starting the car on the drive) so this clearly leaves me stuck with no car.

Realisticaly how difficult would it be to get hold of another shaft with cog and replace it with the engine in the car?

The block is an Audi ABK, same as a 2E but inline no transverse.

Ive looked one ebay and ive found a shaft for a AGG/ADY block, will this fit a ABK/2E?

Luckily it's an inline block, so I suppose you can do it with the engine in situ, you'll probably have to remove some of the front body parts.
If it were transverse the engine would have to come out.

Its in a mk2 Golf, so out it comes.

Any ideas if the later intermediate shafts are the same as the early mk3 golf 8v gti ones?

From memory Miles pretty much any 2ltr 16v or 8v aux shaft will work, it's the gear on the dizzy end that is different from the earlier 1.8 parts.

So theoreticaly if i got hold of a 1,8 aux shaft than would it fit?
Just trying to expand on my options here really.

The 2 litre shafts are all basically the same, but differ from the 1800 due to the size of the drive gear. You can't even swap the gears around from 1.8 - 2 litre shafts as the journals are different sizes, and that's the journal diameter the gear is pressed onto, not the bearing journal.
Sorry for the confusion, it's been a long couple of weeks at the Emment household!

It would fit but it would foul #4 conrod from memory and also the dizzy drive gear would not marry up to it and therefore you'd habve no dizzy or oil pump drive even if the conrod did clear....so basically NO sorry.

pretty sure the 16v int shaft is no good due to the oil pump drive on the end, but all mk3 2.0 8v shafts are the same so AGG/ADY will do you. the int shaft sprocket is the same as the cam one, and 1.8 is same as 2.0 8v :)

My ABK is/will be running a 16v oil pump and idler gear with the 16v cap where the dizzy normally sits. I have trial fitted so can confirm it is the same

I'm running a SEM hence no need for dizzy before anyone asks lol

Well the ABF oil pump drive gear and cover definitely fits my ABK block and marries up with my ABK intermediate shaft....so it's got me stumped as well!

So Mart correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that 2.0L 8v & 16v intermediate shafts are interchangeable? I know that 16v oil pump idler I had off of you marries up to my ABK intermediate shaft [:s]
