any of you into electr, electronica, electro pop? like legowelt dmx krew aphex twin square pusher alter ego acid junkies werkbeirch m83 adult vitalic cyclop global goon any of that ring any bells to any of you?
I now of Aphex twin and squarepusher and have seen the plump DJs play at nation-my golly gosh they were good!
tomorrow world by squarepusher's a great tune. Some Atari Teenage Riot stuff's pretty good. Avant Hard by Add(n)to(x) is a good album for synths.
Got quite a bit of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher.. tbh a lot of it's too hectic for my tastes; but stuff like "My red hot car" and "Theme from Ernest Borgnine" are sweet Just been caning "Polynomial C" as well.. love that tune On a bit of a tangent, you like Joy Devision, Miss Pussy? Think you would.. Oh yeah.. Ghost in the Shell.. cracking film
Saw ATR live, best gig. Hot, sweaty little venue. The girl set up a single white strobe on stage then went round and smashed all the other lights cos they wouldn't turn them off. Pure noise for about three hours solid with everyone well off their tits. Top night.
Atari Teenage Riot only had one good song, can't remember, i've got the album back home so will have to check. Never heard o any of the others tho.
y man i heard they played reading and she just stood thee flashing to evey f**ker to get a crowed haha Man they poo is raw i do like but alec emprie the other singer from them is real good as a solo artist might be a bit industrial thou for some ppl
I like Alec Empire too, worth looking out for bands on his Digital Hardcore label, it all has a similar 'flava.'
Electro, oh yes To name a few: Bola Jega Legofeet Gescom but really there is only one true electro artist *Anthony Rother* no-one else comes close imo
It does Electro is a bit of a strange genre of music, as it has crossed over/merged and demerged with a number of other genres over the years. It really started off in the late 60s/70s with Kraftwerk, in a pure form, then in the late 70s/early 80s influenced a sub division of early hiphop pioneers (such as Africa Bambaataa/Herbie Hancock) to form the first music to be labelled 'Electro' (as far as I am aware). It gave birth to electopop in the 80s, and there were many mainsteam acts playing with the sound , depeche mode for one.By the early 90s it had influenced and merged with a section of techno/industrial dance music. Since then it has continued to grow and be part of idm, as well as having a number of underground experimenters taking it back to its original roots as well as diversifiying and mixing with other styles such as acoustic and downtempo.
