On my way home i passed a mk 2 golf gti, instantly recognisable!, followed by what looked like a pug euro box. Had to do a double take when i spotted the VW badge on the front!! Bland and too much like the competition.

Had a look inside one too, not too keen on the dash plastic!!!!

There's a column in todays The Herald newspaper about the mk5 golf, and how that may be the last "Golf" VW will be doing, if sales fall

That photoshop makes it look remarkably like a Civic Type-R!

Have you seen the actual price for the Mk5? You can buy far bigger (dare I say -) Better cars for what they are asking for them, its highway robbery.

VW really have shot themselves in the foot imo :(

I think the mk5 looks like a normal civic, so the type-r is better [:D]

Type R is far cheaper and probably faster.

not sure which one, but it looks like a Seat from the back!!

I agree all hatchbacks look the same - the MkI, II & III were all unique, but now everything looks the same!! Whats happened to car manufacturing?!?

They've just played it 'safe' again.

They need to be bold like with the MK1 GTI. The only reason why the MK1 GTI was ever developed was because the engineers worked on it in secret. Perhaps they need to do that again ;)

It would help if they put more power under the bonnet and stiffened up the suspension.
Top power is 150bhp, ain't goin to be able to do much with that as the cars too heavy!!
0-60 comes in at (wait for it, i know it's going to be too scary!! 8.9s!!!)

For F*** sake my tractor does it in 9.6!!

Modern manufacturers play it safe and try to make a product that will appeal to people who buy other brands. The net result is that there are fewer individual cars and more that just look like the same tin box.

Think about VW/Audi/Ford twenty years ago. Each model in the respective range looked totally different. Now its hard to tell one from another (e.g Arosa/Lupo etcetc) and to be honest I cant be bothered to anymore.

No one is willing to take a risk and branch out into a new direction like VW did with the Mk1 and I cant see it happening again anytime soon either. Its sad but I think when VW start making cars that look like a f*cking Honda Civic there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

The only really notable exceptions I have seen on the VW dealer forecourt in recent times are a Mk4 Oettinger tuned GTi and the R32.

I`ll stick with my Mk2 thanks very much all the same though ;)
