Not exactly the best looking VW ever produced. Big & lardy.

Would have thought that the 2.0 GT TDI would be quite a torquey motor. What does it drive like?

Was quite torqey - went up hills like a treat. Big and lardy like u said though. Felt like i was sitting in a mini mpv - was huge inside! More of a 'rep-mobile' than a 'drivers car' . Steering was too light. Not a fun car to drive at all!

I am surprised you didnt find it fun to drive. I had a MK5 1.9TDi for 3 weeks and found a right laugh. Well chuckable and handled very well round corners. Steering communicated well, felt very sure footed. Had good grip too.

Obviously it is HUGE inside, but it has to be to compete with the market place.

What car do you normally drive?

Im not disputing the fact that it was grippy, i just felt it was a big disappointment from what i was expecting - not that i know what i was expecting! lol. Didnt put the smile on my make that my mk3 GTI does when i drive that!

The Golf hasn't been a drivers car since 1992. With exception of the R32 and the Anniversary mk4s with the 150 TDIs or 180 Petrols.

    Cheers,

    Drew.

Guys I am not singling out the MK3 - I had one too and loved it - but in all honesty the MK5 would run rings round the MK3. I prefer the drive of the MK5 to my R32, so I am eagerly awaiting the MK5 GTI, it should be brill [:D]

Can't agree. Ii was originally going to buy a mk4 1.8t, and found it gutless low down compared to my mk3, so i kept the mk3. Also, i couldn't get a comfortable driving position in the mk4, where i can in the mk3, also, the mk3 gave much more feedback when thrashing it, also also etc etc etc.

    [:s] [:s] [:s] Which Mk3? No way will a Mk4 1.8T feel gutless compared to a Mk3 GTI... unless you're talking VR6.

    Yes you did... by inference!

    Cheers,

    Drew.

Hehe - no offense, but the MK5 is pooe loads better than the MK4, and therefor better than the MK3. Well it is in my humble opinion <-------i read that to mean the mk5 is better than the mk4, and the mk4 better than the mk3.
