    Now then

The timing on my K-jet 1.8 GTI MK1 has all gone to pot as we couldn't get it started after it had been sat undriven for a couple of weeks. After much fiddling with the timing, mixture and idle, the real probelm was discovered and the parts were replaced (fuel lift pump) The car starts and runs ok now, but now the timing, idle and mixture are all over the place and its 40mpg fuel effiency has gone and its running craply and hesitantly. I am going to get it to a garage next month (when i have some ) for a full set up and tune, but wondered if there are any ways to do a basic re-set of the k-jet system. I can do the timing OK with a timing gun, but don't have a gas analyser for the mixture or know if the idle screw needs specific treatment like it does on the MK2 digifant.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers, Wolfie.

This is true, but only if you have exactly the right grade plugs in the car to start off with.

Buy a cheap Gas Analyser, you'll never get it to run right guessing the mixture setting.

    IMHO
