    hello

i was getting a slight knocking sound on turning the steering and i could feel the gear stick move ever so slightly, well its now got even worse, its not a slight knocking sound now a louding knock and very visible movement in the gear stick, only seems to happen in first and second gears.

    any ideas??

Don't know really but it could be CV joints or the diff. As it only happens in 1st and 2nd I would suspect the diff but I am not too qualified to answer.

could be a knackered engine mount aloowing the exhaust to touch the body/steering rack and letting the gear lever move....

I had something similar on my 1991 8V, particularly noticeable when turning. You could only notice it at low speeds due to the engine noise drowning it out at higher speeds.

Turned out to be the front shocks. No problems since I had new ones fitted.
