We have an 89 (F) 1.8 16V that has a crazy rev counter. If you accelerate or remain at a constant speed it's fine but the moment you release the accelerator it shoots round to 8K RPM and then back to where it should be. This happens every time you lift your foot off. Anybody got an idea what is wrong with it? Thanks Lee
i have a 1990 digi with the same problem the rev counter fly`s all over the place if i turn the engine off and restrt it its ok for a bit then it happens again ???????????????????????????????????????
It might not be picking up correctly from your gearbox. That would make it flick, when not at a constant speed.
We're talking Rev counters m8, not speedos. The rev-counter runs from the coil as far as I'm aware, nothing to do with the gearbox. I know that on French cars in particular tend to shake if you ever disconnect the speedo drive but I don't think this would be related on a Golf. Lee
also the car has started to cut out at low speed ie 1 gear almost like ive turned it on and off really quickly but i dont get the battery light come on the dash or the temp light could it be the fuel pump or the injection ?
