After thinking my mk2 16v gearbox was shot, i poured a litre of oil in the timing check hole on top of my gearbox [:$]oopps :p
I flushed it through and the clutch hasnt started to slip yet!
I found it was leaking on the side of the housing you can see where the circle bit is, it looks to be really thin metal or even plastic??
There was two small holes!! so i cleaned it up as much as i could and put some Exhaust gum stuff on it?
Do you think this will hold it [:s]

is that the VW stamped bit you see in the wheelarch? if so then it might hold but its easy replaced and probably cheap too.
Mine leaks there but I butchered it to get it out then beat the old one back in with some sealant... [:$]

Nothing, it just presses in. Make sure you drive it in squarely as once it's half in and twisted it's a b1tch to get back out without damage.

Can't believe you chucked a litre of oil down the timing hole and got away with it

Anything oil based (ie petrol) will knacker the clutch plate. Suspect the degreaser might do as well. Try brake cleaner.

You can either drive it and see what happens (which is what I would do) or drop the box and clean it out properly.

Worst case you need a new clutch plate and a couple more cans of brake cleaner to clean everything else.

Just ask for a clutch release bearing cover plate.
