Just bought a new mk2 16V and it doesn't have any locking wheel bolts. Every other one I've had has always had them. I know they're not difficult to undo with reasonable tools but I've always thought it's a slight deterrent for the opportunist.

I went to get some from VW the other day and they gave me SportRader ones for 23 (not bad) but they were for a mk3. I went to exchange them this morning and they said the mk2 ones were 54! Apparently cos they're original VW. Strange I definitely bought some replacement ones from VW a couple of years ago and they were only about 25 I'm sure - have SportRader stopped making the mk2 ones or something?
Alternatively I could try some from an auto factors I spose, what does everyone recommend, the original ones are the 3-prong type, I have used the other kind with the continuous groove in - are they any better?

I can highly recommend the McGuard locking bolts, excellent quality, cost a bit more but worth it.

McGuard every time. Any thing else can be taken off just as quick as the original bolts. (If you dont know how, I'm not saying). ;)

VW used to use the McGaurd ones anyway. I've got them on my MK1 and they are spot on. The only problem is that i've lost the socket for them [:s]

My beloved is in an aloted space just out the front of my house. Two other cars have had their wheels taken.
One of which did have locking nuts but unfortunatly the owner left the key in the glove department. So let that be a warning.

To make sure, I went for an over-kill and have three
different make of locking nuts on my motor.
