    I have a mk3 Golf Gti 16v,
I want to get a socket set that will cover most of my modding needs. I have about 50-80
to spend on it, but want to get the best i can for my moola.

Just one last thing, it has to be able to be bought via Paypal, as i have funds in there that need spending, so ebay is probably the best bet.

Thanks for any info in advance

Halfords professional all the way. Pretty good quality and if you break something they will replace for free, lifetime guarantee.

I replaced my halfords set with some Britool sockets. 6 sided is far better imo.

I have both Britool and Halfords...both are good.
To use as a DIY Mechanic, there is nothing between them.
Halfords replace with no questions asked - superb service!

They often have offers on their tool sets and for the money, can't be beaten, in my view.

Never really had a problem with 12 sided although there are times when you want 6...

The Halfords no quibble warranty make them more appealing than Snap-On to me.

ive just bought the halfords 150pc socket set with free top box and couldn't be happier with it. im now selling my old top & mid box to get some money back so i recon ive paid about 100 for the lot.

you could buy this and sell the box, theres a couple of them on ebay and i imagine there doing the same thing. just a thought????

NOT halfords imo. they are all 12 point sockets and they like to kill nuts/bolts that are slightly rusted. 6 sided or dont bother, imo

for the money you have, get a 1/2" (clarke) set and a 1/4" (draper) set, all metric with as many deeps as possible

ive got a silverline socket set, cost me about 60 from toolstation, i know its not the best brand but all the sockets are 6-sided and ive given the ratchet 3 years of abuse and it still works fine. nice metal box as well none of that blow moulded plastic rubbish
