which setting you using on your DSLR ? Usually use the P setting bit iv been experimenting with manual for the first time .... kinel, you need to be a scientist
I tend to use S but I have been doing mainly nightclub type stuff. When I have been doing landscapes my camera has a scene setting so my as well call that Auto. And yes, full manual gives me a headache when I try it
are you sure the A means auto? usually on SLR's, M=manual, P= programme (auto), S= shutter priority, A= aperture priority. normally keep mine on A (aperture priority) which lets you choose the depth of field.
With my Canon 5D - Aperture Priority unless I'm using off-camera flash, then it's Manual. With Hasselblad - strictly Manual, as it's completely mechanical hand doesn't even have a light meter. Sekonic L-308 handheld flashmeter used for that one. Used to have a couple of Nikon FE2s - like the FM2, but cooler 'cos it's got Aperture Priority... 50th Anniversary of the Nikon F this year, btw.
I've had mine for 3 years now and still haven't taken it out of Auto more than for a few photo's....I really can't find the time to learn how to use it and understand it
usually aperture unless I'm photoing movement. only auto for very fast shots of people saying "quick grab the camera" or ebay pics.
Pretty much as Will says, above. (Manual, with studio lighting, of course.) Sometimes though, particularly with macro/closeup, the camera won't fire, and I'm never quite sure why.
I get that as well stella, I think it's if you're in auto-focus and it's not quite in focus it won't let you take a picture, same as if it's too dark/light etc.
yeah was having the exact same problem doing nightclub stuff. Where the pre-flash thing isn't close enough to anything for the camera to autofocus so it won't take the picture but you can't manual focus as the screen is dark as you need the ramped up ISO to do its magic!!!! annoying. Need to get a good flash with it's own auto focus etc I think
Well I am starting to understand it all, doesn't mean I can take decent photo's yet though!!! P, A and S are kinf od like semi auto, where you control one aspect and the rest is on Auto. I have it on Shutter Priority when doing nightclub stuff, but I end up playing with the ISO too.
the reason it wont fire is because the camera is saying its either out of focus or its poorly exposed. just to clarify. i try to work in manual but for some low depth of field i shoot in AV (apperture) or for images that im trying to portray speed i use TV (shutter speed) i my mind using some of the single functions (and dare i say it some of the auto programs) can be advantages dependent on the type od shot your after
As said it's because the camera hasn't autofocused. I tend to put the lens in manual focus, closeset range, and then move the camera back an forth for the desired focus.
I use 'A' 70% of the time.... 'M' 20% and S 10%! P is a waste of space IMO as is the CA setting on my 5Dii!
Since I've moved on to my D300, I use aperture most of the time, manual occasionally (studio stuff) and rarely, speed priority. Feel a lot more confident using them than I used to. Also shoot in RAW most of the time (but not track days/speedy events.) I also alter the ISO setting a lot, but annoy myself by forgetting about it on my next shoot, so find I'm using ISO 1600 in broad daylight or somesuch! I put it down to my age ..........
