hi guys, the last twice i have been out in my 16v mk2 i have noticed a strange loudish buzzing noise. it comes and goes, doesnt seem to increase with revs and is not there all the time. is the pump on the way out? its defo coming form one of the pumps and is audible form outside the vehicle!! aggghhhhh!!!!
Could well be! Definately a sign of a worn pump. Only a matter of time before it loses system pressure and the engine wont run properly under load. My '87 8v K-Jet had the very same symptoms and it turned out to be the main pump. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELECTRIC-...Model:Golf|Plat_Gen:MK+II&hash=item257229d024
rock on mate, added to my watchlist for purchase come payday. i'll check euro and gsf to. not going to drive it now just incase. is this one the lift pump: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-M...CarParts_SM&hash=item2eba1fe9aa#ht_2104wt_716 PITA, just fitted my coilovers, front engine mount, rear caliper, new axle mounting points at rear welded in to. FFS!!!!! lol!! pretty gutted, was planning to go to the scottishvag show tomorrow in it, looks like i'll be going in the comfort of my mk4 1.8t now!
Normally a loud main pump means the lift pump is on its way out, making the main pump work harder. I've had this happen to me on every mk2 I've owned , each time being the lift pump. It's worth changing as they are only cheap and easy to replace.
