Hi, i'm new to the forum, owned many Golfs though mianly Mk1 GTI's.

Having known about Rover using Volkswagon box's in the Meastro, can someone clear up weather the gearbox used in a MG Meastro or MG Meastro Turbo was the Volkswagon box?

Try to use the search option at the top of the screen, Websnowo

I believe the earlier versions the car both had VAG boxes, I think the Turbo version had the box very similar ratios to the MK 1 fd box,

the others had a box same as the 4+E VW box, which is the box i'm running at the moment, not much sporty pull in 5th, but fantastic cruising RPMs :p

the 020 box was used on the 1.3 and 1.6 meastros and montegos.
Some, like the vans had a very low rig and pinion and all of them had
a the small input shaft size like the 8v type golf boxes. However the
later 1.6s and all of the the 2.0, both turbo and EFI, and the turbo
diesels used the honda prelude box.

What about the final drive in the maestro's? I have heard that they are higher (4.1 etc). Will these fit into our vag boxes?

yup! while researching the list of 'M series' ratios (that I lost[:x]) I
found racers using Maestro van bits in golf boxes for a super low
final drive. Trouble is you wont have an easy time of finding a
meastro van in the breakers yard as they had the lifespan of a fruitfly
    compared to golfs it seems.

All bits are swappable to the best of my knowledge.

for info, have a search on the old forum and this one to see if the list
I did of all the boxes is still about. I couldnt find it and it took me a
while to write it all out so I'll probably not bother again. (or untill i'm
    really bored)
