The "Man in the Shed" has just completed my 16V head - I am so pleased with his work I thought that I would share it with you guys !!

Head was skimmed by 012", so there is enough meat on there should it ever need doing again.
    Ports were ported and polished.
Chambers all balanced to 45cc to within .2cc of each other.
Dave also recommended that the valve seats to be cut a little deeper to help with the fact that it will be on a G60 car, to regain the correct spring pressure .4mm valve spring shims were fitted (all springs measured at 60lbs fitted and 155lbs on full lift).

Here are a few pics of the finished head, which will be used for my 16V G60 winter project !!!

    Roll on winter !!

If he’s not as anonymous as we thought then maybe he’d like to sponsor the engine section

    - He traditionally supplied to trade only
    - This changed about 3-4 years ago, so the man in the street was able to find him
    - He's always known on here as the man in the shed
    - There's a bit of an in-joke mystery appeal about finding him
    - And finally, there's a fine line here about unpaid advertising etc, which to be fair, he's done not badly out of at all

Nothing more to it than that :)

fair do's, surely this site is impartial but the people on here are totally free to recommend any product/supplier?? IIRC it wasn't a mod/admin that started the 'shed head thread'?

Yes, myself. Mods can only start threads in the GB section, and are usually done to request.

When I spent time with him on Saturday he was happy for his name and number to be posted on this and the MK1 Golf owners site.

Was just glad I found out about him - people with his skills are a dying breed.

I wouldn't post anybody's number on a public web forum, least of all mine.

Dave spends most of his time (normally 7 days a week) working on cylinder heads, rather than messing around on the net, and probably isn't aware of the pitfalls of publicising yourself online. It would be very easy to spend his whole day answering calls from daydreamers, and end up getting little or no work done. He's a one man business and doesn't want to employ someone to answer the phone all day.

I set up the "group buy" with him, and just for the record, neither myself nor Chris are on any sort of commission. I paid for the head work I had done and I've got receipts to prove it. If anyone's offended about the amount of free publicity he's getting, then you're welcome to go and buy a cylinder head somewhere else. It might well be one of his though.

The deal was set up so that Club GTI members and forum users could benefit from his work at about 50% less than his trade customers sell it on for, and lots of people have done just that.

I'm reading that back before I post it, and it sounds like a bit of a rant. I'm not having a go at anyone in this post, but I think it's important to set the record straight, before anyone's imagination runs away with them.
