Hi. May be a long shot , but does anyone know if seats from any later VAG model are a straight fit into a 1987 Golf Cabby ? Or will I be looking at modifying the rails. Thanks.

post-84 mk1 cabrio rails are the same as mk2 golf, so you can seats from a mk2 plus a corrado, post-84 scirocco. mk2 and mk2f polo are the same spacing, just note the fixed height seat legs are the wrong angle. you can get round it by shoving the legs into the rail and pushing the seat backwards, but its not ideal  the height adjust seats go in fine as the legs pivot :)

pre-84 mk1 golf seats are the same except the slider handle is on the opposite side, so you need to flip the handle or just reach underneath to pop the pin manually to slide the seat.

the polo, scirocco and corrado seats sit a fair bit lower then mk1/2 seats, so bear that in mind. post-84 cabrio/polo and pre-90 mk2 seats have the same foams and base frames, so the fabrics will swap over either way. handy if say you have a cabrio or pre-90 mk2 and need seats that sit lower, but want to keep fabric OEM :)

finally the rear seats are specific to the cabrio, they are narrower than the normal tintop seats. people have modified corrado bench in the past, its tricky but the width is about right
