    Hi,

I'm new here and today i will be picking up my new Mk3 VR6 powered GTI.

I've taken it for a test drive and its rapid (proven 184bhp), and it has so many extra's a dont know what switch does what at the moment but i was hoping that you guys might be able to answer a couple of things for me.

I'm not new to the VW scene as i own a show winning beetle and used to have a fully loaded Mk 2 GTI 16v, buti dont know much about the Mk 3.

Really the only thing i wanted to know was, as my new motor was a GTI originally, now it has the VR6 engine, what will the differences be between this and a propper VR6. Will i be missing anything??

I'll appreciate any answers or advice you may be able to give me.

    Matt

    hi there and welcome!!!

depends really more than often a car thats had an engine transplant (especially vr6) would have been uprated with shocks/brakes bushes/ a/r bars etc. what does the car drive like?? is it wollowy??? dont the bloke have reciepts for all parts fitted??? very much doubt it will be running std gti parts now!!!!

for reference, the gti and vr6 had the same dampers, but the vr6 had different springs.

    ARB wise i cannot comment.

brake wise they were the same too.

not really a lot of difference between them really.

    Hi,

The guy i've had it off has got hundreds of receipts that add up to 10k plus and although i dont uderstand why anyone would bother, it looks like its been done well with no expence spared.

i've hpi'd it and it is all clear. not a blemish.

this is a list of some of the things it has had done:

VR6 engine and gearbox fitted at a vw specialist in manchester
    ram air induction kit
    magnicore leads
    jetex cat back ss exhaust
rolling road tuned to 184bhp at midland VW
    FK coilovers
    Drilled brake disks
    quickshift gear linkage kit
mk 4 style headlights and cystal lights all round
    toad alarm and tracker
    audi rs4 17 inch wheels
the list goes on and on.....

    what you guys think?

will this be lacking anything compared to a standard VR6??

I've just typed a massive reply (well for a one finger typer anyway) but it doesn't seem to have posted.

anyway, I've HPI'd it and it is totally clear, nothing on it at all.
the guy i'm buying it off has loads of receipts that must add up to 10k+ and all the work has been done by specialists.

a few of the things done are:

    VR6 2.8 engine and gearbox
    Magnicore leads
    Ram air induction kit
    Jetex cat back ss exhaust
rolling road tuned at midland VW to 184bhp
    FK coilovers
    Drilled Brakedisks
    Quickshift gear linkage kit
audi RS4 17" wheels with toyo tyres
mk4 style headlanps and crystal lights all round
cat 1 alarm and tracker fitted
the list goes on and on.....

do you think this will be lacking anything that a VR6 has??

    cheers.

I am being anal, but depending on year the VR had 288mm disks and the GTI had 280mm.

Untill circa 1996/7 when the GTI was uprated to the 288mm brakes.

But essentially, you could get more toys in a GTI than a base model VR, depends on the wallet of the person buying it new.:)
